Ultimate Workout Motivator

Now, I don’t know about you, but some days I just am not feeling the workout thing.  I find it really hard to get excited about running on a treadmill or workin it out on the elliptical, esp. when most the time i’m just staring out a window.  This isn’t every day, sometimes I really am just in the mood to get a good sweat going…but SOME DAYS (mainly after a day of work when all I want to do is put on my pj’s and curl up on the couch with chips and salsa) I am in need of a good MOTIVATOR.

For me, this is music! Once I start listening to some good tunes I instantly start to “get in the groove” if you will.  For the longest time I refused to even workout without music — I realized later that it was actually helpful sometimes to not have music all the time…esp. when I was doing some long outdoor runs, it was good to hear myself breathe.  BUT, with that said…when I’m in the gym, I find one of the best ways to keep myself motivated is my music.  I try to make a music mix that keeps my energy up — songs with a good beat sometimes help me push myself to run a little faster or do sit ups a little longer.  A good little trick when running intervals on the treadmill/or any form of cardio is to run a steady pace during a song until the chorus comes, then to kick up the speed during the chorus and do this for the entire song.

Now i’m off to go to a run!  I’ve been playing some of this music writing this post and i’m ready to get my butt off the couch!
